Tam, the last male Sumatran rhino has died putting pressure on the ongoing efforts of conservationists hoping to use in vitro fertilization to create offspring. All species of African and Asian rhinos have been struggling to survive for decades due to loss of habitat and (especially in the case of Sumatran Rhinos) isolation from each other and also due to the insidious trade in and poaching / killing of rhinos for their horns.
