Maluma and BJWT Drama

In Case You Forgot That Black Jaguar White Tiger Exploits Captive Big Cats, Maluma Is Here to Remind You

Our thoughts on the recent Maluma drama involving Black Jaguar White Tiger and Eduardo Serio.

While it's nice to see coverage of Maluma's fans criticizing him, it's important to understand that The Black Jaguar-White Tiger Foundation does this all the time, and that MALUMA has been a longtime support of BJWT.

CWW has been writing about BJWT's celebrity visitors and their Commerce-conservation for years now. Our job would get easier if the media gave more credence to such criticism and if fans criticized the exploitive entities which promote people like Maluma handling captive big cat cubs as easily as they criticize the celebrities.

It was Maluma’s response to the criticism of his fans, however, that managed to skyrocket a typical exploitation of captive wild animals, into a headline-grabbing high drama escapade.

Maluma deactivated his Instagram account and then erased hundreds or thousands of comments criticizing him for holding a lion cub.

And the media world lost its collective mind.

After all, one of the most widely circulated articles addressing the Maluma drama doesn’t even bother to name Black Jaguar White Tiger. Another article names BJWT in passing, describing it as “an animal rescue sanctuary” (wrong, and wrong) and a third actually defends BJWT, both calling it a “sanctuary” and claiming that the big cats there are “cared for in a natural habitat”.

Because, you know, in a natural habitat, baby lions live in people’s closets, just like the closet where Maluma is cuddling this one.

We thank the fans of Maluma who called him out for exploiting captive wild animals, but we humbly ask that you try doing the same all the time, and extend your distain to the exploitive facilities which literally exist by hosting celebrities like Maluma to play with their animals. Criticizing Maluma for playing with lion cubs at Black Jaguar White Tiger, but not criticizing Black Jaguar White Tiger for providing those cubs to celebrities like Maluma is not addressing the actual problem.
