Lion Rips off Toddler’s Scalp At Heilbron Lion Farm

A 4-year-old girl is in critical condition after being attacked by a lioness.

We would also like to point out the disparaging difference between the tone of coverage produced by various media sites between an incident like this, and the incident wherein Kevin Richardson’s lion–which was out of a secure enclosure, loose, uncontrolled and completely unattended–fatally mauled Megan van der Zwan, ending her life in horrific fashion.

Further, in 2010 two sisters were attacked by a lioness at the exact same predator facility.

It seems not much was learned in the intervening years since then.

The South African government continue to turn a blind eye to predator breeding and big cat interactions while tourists continue to be seduced by those who would exploit captive big cats by manipulating the public through a combination of “feel good” media–often involving direct interaction between humans and captive wild animals–and misinformation as to what is happening, and can actually happen.

Thus, the lure to interact with big cats in cub petting and lion walking situations is strong.
