A fantastic article featured in iAfrica by Andreas Wilson-Spath which explores the largely neglected area of trophy hunting of giraffes. While the trophy hunting of predator species, and others like elephants, rhinos and hippos enjoy widespread coverage and criticism, giraffes are often not addressed aside from perhaps a sentence or two. The oversight has allowed populations to quietly decline in the background until the combination of multiple factors, including trophy hunting has forced giraffes onto the endangered species lists. With some subgroups of giraffe numbering only a few thousand animals the future of this species remains in question, and most of the world doesn’t even realize it.
